The Hawaii Senate during its session confirmed nominees to several posts, adopted two standing committee reports and voted to disagree with House amendments to a set of Senate concurrent resolutions, the chamber’s proceedings show.
The actions were largely procedural. The Senate recorded 24 members present and one excused during roll call. On a set of governor’s messages taken on consent, Standing Committee Report 18‑60 (Governor’s Message 544) recorded 22 ayes and 2 noes; the record shows that all other governor’s messages were confirmed by 24 ayes. The clerk announced that the nominees referenced in those messages were confirmed.
Senator Wakai moved that the Senate disagree to the House’s amendments to the Senate concurrent resolutions identified in House Communication Nos. 711–713; the motion was seconded by Senator DeCorte and carried. The Senate noted that conferees to resolve the differences will be named at a later date.
The body also adopted Standing Committee Reports Nos. 18‑75 and 18‑76. Senator Wakai moved for adoption; Senator Descartes seconded, and the motion carried. Earlier in the record, the Senate placed Standing Committee Reports Nos. 18‑65 through 18‑74 on one‑day notice.
During introductions, Senator McCall introduced Brandy Nowlani McDougall, the session’s poet laureate, and staff members from her office. Senator San Buenaventura acknowledged Daintree Vytolodis and Shay Silverton, who were present on behalf of individuals confirmed that day to serve on the Hawaii State Council on Developmental Disabilities.
Before adjournment, Senator Wakai moved that the Senate stand adjourned until 11:30 a.m. the following day; the motion was seconded by Senator Descartes and carried.
