Stormont Vail Flint Hills campus reports record admissions, new OB provider and patient advisory council

Representatives from Stormont Vail Flint Hills campus briefed the Geary County commission on hospital operations, reporting record performance in several areas and next steps to involve community members in planning and patient experience.
Tracy Duran, hospital administrator, told commissioners the campus has exceeded budgeted projections year to date: inpatient admissions were 48 over plan, births were 32 above forecast, surgeries were about 76 more than expected and emergency department visits were 218 higher than budgeted. Duran said these volumes, combined with careful labor management, have produced a positive year‑to‑date margin for the hospital.
Duran also announced a new provider joining the OB service on May 12 and described the launch of a patient and family advisory council intended to solicit community feedback on services and programs. The hospital representative noted continuing deferred maintenance issues in facilities — brittle pipes and other aging infrastructure — and said ongoing campus projects and coordination with facilities staff are addressing deferred maintenance as it is discovered.
Why it matters: Local hospital capacity, provider recruitment and community engagement affect access to care for county residents. Hospital leaders said they have no current travel‑staffing positions open and are managing growth while planning for longer‑term facility maintenance.
