Fiscal Court adds three roads to county system, schedules follow-up for discontinuance procedures

The Russell County Fiscal Court voted April 14 to add three roads to the county road system and discussed the process for discontinuance where applicable.
Court members approved adding the road formerly known as East Service Road back into the county road list under the requested name Cravens Road (approximately 0.261 miles in District 5). The court approved adding Dandy Lane (0.186 miles, District 2) into the system on a motion by Magistrate Garner and second; that motion passed by voice vote.
The court also approved adding Womack Road (increasing from 0.261 miles to 0.474 miles, District 4) to the county list. County staff noted paperwork had been submitted and that because Womack Road involves a discontinuance or reclassification issue, it will require a second reading and public posting of signs; staff said they will brief the court on that process at the next meeting.
Magistrates voted on each road addition by voice and recorded the motions as passed. Staff explained that in some cases a road that has not been maintained for four years may be considered discontinued and the court must follow statutory recording and posting requirements when reclassifying or reinstating roads into the county system.
