Sean Metcalfe was administered the oath of office as city manager of Oskaloosa during the April 7 council meeting. The oath included the pledge to support the constitutions of the United States and the state of Iowa and to "faithfully and impartially" discharge the duties of city manager as required by law.
After the oath Mayor David Kreutzfeld welcomed Metcalfe. Metcalfe thanked the council and said he was "really happy to be here" and that he would "be my, you know, my very best for the community." He told the council he plans to place an item on the next meeting agenda to discuss the city's strategic plan and wants to focus on the priorities council considers most important.
Why it matters: The city manager is the chief administrative official responsible for executing council policy and directing city staff. Council members and staff welcomed Metcalfe and indicated expectations for early strategic discussions.
What happens next: Metcalfe said he will return to the next council meeting with a proposed agenda item to discuss the strategic plan and to solicit council direction on priorities.
