County facilities and fleet updates: generators, HVAC RFPs, new bucket truck and totaled sheriff vehicle

Facilities and fleet staff briefed the Montezuma County commissioners on recent maintenance, equipment deliveries and repair work and asked permission to advertise for HVAC bids tied to the capital budget.

Dustin, facilities staff, reported generators installed at the coroner’s office and deliveries for fairgrounds and Annex 3. He said crews repaired a leaking main gate valve at the sheriff’s department after it failed a test last year and completed plumbing repairs and sidewalk excavation at Annex 1. Dustin asked whether the county could put out a request for proposals for HVAC units; staff noted the units were included in the capital budget and asked commissioners for permission to proceed with RFPs at the next meeting.

Shane, fleet maintenance staff, said new Dodge Durango sheriff units are expected to arrive in the coming weeks and Subarus ordered to replace pool cars have a June build date. He reported one sheriff vehicle had been declared a total loss after an accident and said upfitting costs (equipment added to vehicles) are roughly $20,000 per unit; truck and equipment salvageable items may include radios, radar units and some electronics. Shane also reported the county took delivery of a snow plow and a bucket truck for the road department; staff said the new bucket truck will be safer and easier to access than the older vehicle.

Why it matters: the equipment deliveries and repairs maintain county operations across public safety, road maintenance and facilities. The fleet insurance outcome will affect replacement timing and budget requests for upfitted sheriff vehicles.
