County notes: Master Gardeners events, community outreach and retirement of Lynn Berry

County staff and volunteers presented community updates and the commission recognized a long‑time county employee on April 14.
Riley County Master Gardeners announced community events: a booth at the Sunset Zoo party for the planet on April 19 (12:00–4:00 p.m.), presence at the downtown Farmer’s Market on April 26, and participation in the Flint Hills Festival on May 3 with a native-plant seed activity. Master Gardener representatives said outreach would include information on pollinator plants and seed giveaways.
The commission also held recognition for Lynn Berry, who is retiring after more than 40 years with the county extension. Speakers praised Berry’s leadership with the county fair and 4‑H programs and thanked her for long service. Berry said she had mixed emotions about retiring and recalled starting in the county office after high school and soon joining extension work.
Commissioners announced a public retirement reception for Berry and encouraged community recognition of longstanding county employees.
