The Caswell County Board of Education approved a four-day, 10-hour workweek for summer hours for 12-month classified staff, running June 16 through the week of Aug. 12 (last day Aug. 16), with guidance on timekeeping and supervisory oversight.
Staff said the proposed summer schedule responds to employee feedback and will begin June 16. Board members discussed operational consistency, noting some departments (for example, maintenance and IT) require staff to be available for projects and may not leave campus as frequently. Several members urged consistent expectations across departments and recommended that employees clock out if they leave campus for lunch or other personal errands during the work day.
The board approved the summer-hours plan with added verbiage that employees who leave the building must punch out; supervisors were asked to manage schedules to avoid inequities across departments and to account for essential on-site tasks on some Fridays to avoid overtime.
Staff will provide final schedules to department supervisors and the board requested follow-up at the April 28 work session if needed.
