The county’s IT director told the commission April 14 that the IT department will implement a new ticket system and a managed-device platform, rollout county "dot-gov" email accounts and complete staged network migrations for remaining departments this year.
In a prepared update, the IT director said he plans to implement a new ticket system by April 30 to track work, audits and contractor activity and to improve transparency and response times. He recommended all county employees be moved to dot-gov email addresses no later than April 30 so the county can deploy the NinjaOne mobile-device/endpoint-management tools to all users.
The director outlined a migration timeline for network moves: House of Correction by June 30, MVC by Sept. 1 and the County Sheriff’s Office by Sept. 30, with an overall goal tied to an October 20 deadline for completing network transitions. He said the administrative finance and county attorney offices have already moved to the new network and that the transition revealed wiring and switch-port mismatches the IT team will map and correct.
The director said the county will likely need contractor assistance for some wiring and that he will ask each department head to designate a liaison to work with IT on workflow and wiring mapping. He also described plans for wireless point-to-point links between buildings to increase redundancy and protect the network.
Commissioners asked about staffing levels and backups for the old network during the migration. The IT director said he will secure necessary account credentials and documentation for the old system and will try to ensure Justin (IT staff) is not continuously diverted to maintain legacy systems during cutovers. The director asked department heads to provide account names, passwords and software locations to support migration planning.
No formal vote resulted; commissioners expressed support for the timetable and asked for status updates at future meetings.
