Bartlett Yancey FFA member Irvin Satterfield and advisor Harley Denny were recognized for their work on Irvin's sheep production proficiency award application. Officials said Satterfield has been active in FFA since middle school and placed in the top three for North Carolina's sheep production proficiency award; he will be recognized on June 24 at the NC State FFA convention, where his final placing will be revealed. "Irvin takes great pride in his family's sheep production business and his lamb showmanship," the board's recognition statement said.
The board recognized Kyra "Takayra" Henderson as Bartlett Yancey High School's nominee to attend Governor's School West at Greensboro College from June 22 through July 19; Henderson was also named a recipient of a Governor's School Foundation scholarship.
Cicely Austin, president of the Eta Eta Zeta chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated, announced a new supporting-teachers program and presented Bartlett Yancey teacher Paula Bennett as the chapter's first grant recipient. The chapter said the grant has a value of $1,000 and aims to support beginning teachers.
Separately, the board noted that N. L. Dillard Middle School's girls volleyball team won the conference championship and will be invited to a future meeting for formal recognition.
These recognitions were presented at the start of the meeting; no formal board votes or policy actions were associated with the items as presented.
