Carroll County supervisors appoint Kurt Steigert as county attorney; he takes oath

The Carroll County Board of Supervisors approved a resolution on April 14, 2025, appointing Kurt Steigert to the office of county attorney effective April 14, 2025, and he took the oath of office at the same meeting.

The board read Carroll County Resolution 2025-11, which specifies the appointment is under Iowa Code chapter 69.14(2) and will last until the canvass of the 2026 general election. A motion and a second were made and the board voted to approve the resolution. A roll-call was taken by county staff member Courtney.

Steigert then stood with supervisors and repeated the oath of office, swearing to support the U.S. Constitution and the constitution of the state of Iowa and to “faithfully and impartially discharge all the duties of the office in Carroll County as now or hereafter required by law.” Supervisors and others offered congratulations after the oath.

The appointment replaces the vacant county attorney position with an appointee who will serve until the next pending election as defined by Iowa law. The board did not discuss additional conditions in the motion recorded in the meeting minutes.
