Council allocates $20,550 to 7 Days of Broadway after discussion of costs and outreach

The Guymon City Council approved $20,550 on April 8 for 7 Days of Broadway, a two-week youth musical program that organizers said brings participants regionally and provides scholarships to local children.

Organizers — including Travis Boyd (president) and Arlene Bulles (vice president) — told the council the program runs two one-week sessions (June and July), usually draws 20–25 campers per week, and performs two public productions with total attendance across both performances often near 300. They said most campers receive some form of scholarship or work‑for‑scholarship support and that local businesses donate meals and other in-kind assistance.

Bulles said the program’s estimated total cost for both weeks is about $41,550, including motel stays for older campers, rights to the musical (this year’s selection was Grease), set building, accompanist and professional instructors. The group reported $9,700 in Oklahoma Arts Council grants received late last year and a recent $2,500 Operation Roundup gift; organizers said they continue to pursue additional grants and donor support.

During discussion council members and staff questioned program finances, attendance, marketing and the degree to which the event draws regional visitors. The Convention & Tourism board had recommended $25,700; the council approved $20,550 after members indicated C&T revenue could support the award and after council motions to reduce the requested amount.

Council members asked staff to process the grant agreement and to require regular C&T reporting from the organizers.
