Guymon Community Theater to receive $5,000 for marquee improvements

The Guymon City Council approved a $5,000 grant to the Guymon Community Theater on April 8 to support marquee improvements, following a presentation by theater board members and public comment.
Mitch Stark, who identified himself as president of the Guymon Community Theater Board, described the marquee project and the theater’s role as a space for children who “don’t play sports” to find an outlet. Stark said the marquee could broadcast city events and help attract sponsorship revenue.
During the council’s review, theater representatives said the total estimated marquee cost is $55,068.59. The board expects an anonymous donor to contribute $25,000 and is seeking additional donations; they also said they are soliciting bids to convert a proposed neon display to LED. Councilmembers indicated the $5,000 award will be put to use for the project; the motion to award the C&T‑recommended grant carried by vote of the council.
Council staff and the theater agreed the funds would be administered through the Convention & Tourism grant process, and the theater will follow standard reporting and grant agreement requirements.
The theater’s representatives thanked the council and said the marquee project will support local performances and regional visitors who come for productions.
