Residents praise council members and urge voter participation during public comment

Rebecca Marshall, a parent and president of the Hixson High School band boosters, recounted a July 2023 incident in which a storage closet containing band uniforms and equipment suffered a ceiling collapse and mold contamination. Marshall said school maintenance and district responses were slow, and she credited Councilman Smith with making calls to the school board and superintendent and helping to obtain replacement equipment and improved communication. She described his assistance as prompt and influential in securing resources for the band.
Janice Gooden of District 8 encouraged registered voters in Districts 8 and 6 to vote, reminding the public that early voting ends April 3 and Election Day is April 8. Gooden also offered public thanks to several council members who are leaving or finishing terms, praising Councilman Smith, Councilman Ledford, Councilman Hester and Councilwoman Coonrod for their service and leadership.
Council leadership thanked the speakers for their remarks during the public-comment portion of the meeting.
