The Stoughton Area School District Board voted to revise policy language that replaces standing committees with task-focused work groups and consolidates some outreach responsibilities into a single outreach work group.
Board members said the change reflects earlier governance discussions and a book-study process that recommended shifting from standing, goal-oriented committees to task-oriented groups that meet as tasks arise. The outreach work group will take on duties previously spread across community relations, legislative and business recognition functions — including the district’s business honor roll, elected-officials engagement and community conversations — and staff said the change is intended to improve alignment and reduce duplicate meetings.
Board members discussed public-noticing requirements, membership and whether work groups would include community participants; staff said work groups remain subject to public-notice rules and that the policy leaves room for community involvement when appropriate. The motion to adopt the policy revisions passed on a roll-call vote.
The board also approved the business honor roll nominations and other routine consent items in the meeting’s consent agenda.
