The Ojai Historic Preservation Commission received an update April 10 on a Green Coalition meeting that brought roughly 50 participants together to discuss stewardship, sponsors, programs and long‑term maintenance of grounds including the City Hall campus.
Staff read an emailed summary from liaison Brian Akins describing small group rotations on topics including partners, programs, stewardship and gardens. Commissioner Moore reported she raised concerns about very large trees on the City Hall campus and potential risks from high winds or fire that could damage historic buildings; the Ojai Valley Fire Safe Council and its executive director Chris Dench were mentioned as organizations working on those issues.
Commissioners emphasized that any changes to the City Hall landmark grounds should be sensitive to its historic status and asked that the Green Coalition consult with the commission and provide documentation that would help preserve the landmark setting. The commission confirmed Brian Akins as liaison and will continue to coordinate with the coalition and with staff.
