An ad hoc committee of the Ojai Historic Preservation Commission reported April 10 that it recommends beginning placement of interpretive plaques on the Ojai Valley Trail at segments controlled by the city, with an estimated per‑sign cost of roughly $1,000 for sign materials and up to $2,000 when installation and design fees are included.
Commissioners Craig Walker and Rick Besascha (Basascha) said they identified two trail sections under city control as sensible starting points and recommended the ad hoc meet with the Public Works director to identify appropriate mounting locations and to confirm site constraints. Walker said the museum expressed interest in participating as an outreach partner and the ad hoc will look for donors to cover fabrication and installation.
The commission did not vote on funding; the next step is for the ad hoc to contact Public Works and bring a more detailed plan and budget back to the commission for consideration.
