Friends of the Pflugerville Library report: book sales, community programs and application to rename original library wing

Kim Rees, treasurer of the Friends of the Library, told the board the group had successful fundraisers in recent months and is continuing community outreach and partnership work. Rees said the Friends raised about $2,000 at both an Amplify Austin event and a recent book sale.

"We did really good. Raised about $2,000 which we did not expect," Kim Rees said, describing the results of the groups second Amplify Austin participation and the recent book sale. Rees said the Friends also completed an off‑site "Books for Babies" program with library staff and plan to repeat the program next year.

Rees said the Friends submitted an application to Pflugerville city to rename the librarys original section the Audrey T. Derrick Wing. The Friends understand the application is currently in subcommittee and said they expect further information from the city in the near term.

The board also heard staff updates on spring programs and outreach. The library reported attendance remains steady overall, with catalog visits lower in one metric the director called unreliable. Upcoming events cited by staff include a literary ball for adults, an annual teen job fair (targeting ages 14 to 19), Pet Fest with local rescue groups, Farm Day at the Heritage House Museum and summer reading promotions.

The Friends said their annual meeting will include recognition and monetary awards for three outstanding teen volunteers; the meeting is open to the public. The Friends also announced the next book sale for Friday, June 20.

No formal board action was taken on the renaming application at this meeting; the Friends reported the application is under city review.
