Sunflower reports RFP3 award declined; board approves March minutes and plans follow-up meeting

Sunflower staff reported to the KFA board on April 11 that one grantee, Link Inc., declined an RFP3 award after closing its substance use disorder program, and the board approved its March meeting minutes.
Krista, a Sunflower staff member, told the board that Link Inc. had been funded for RFP3 in the amount of $160,000 but had closed their SUD program amid a staffing transition and therefore could not accept the award. “They closed their SUD program because of staffing transition,” Krista said. Sunflower staff said they attempted to find alternatives but determined the award was not feasible for Link Inc. at this time; the organization was encouraged to reapply if circumstances change.
Earlier in the meeting the board handled procedural business. Sarah Taylor moved to approve the March board minutes; Monica Merlin seconded the motion. The chair called the question and the motion passed with the board voting in favor.
Board members also discussed scheduling a short (30–60 minute) follow-up Webex session to pose questions to KU‑CPPR before the full report is released. The chair said staff would circulate potential dates and work with Connie (staff) to finalize logistics, noting that public‑notice and physical‑location requirements could push a meeting beyond a one‑week window.
No formal funding reallocation was announced during the meeting; staff will report back with scheduling options and next steps regarding the declined RFP award.
