The Finance Committee recommended appropriating $76,787.19 from the medicinal marijuana stabilization fund to pay salary and fringe for a Prevention Services Coordinator in the Department of Health and Human Services for fiscal 2026.
Director Karen Carroll outlined the role: the Prevention Services Coordinator will support youth substance misuse prevention and education, work with caregivers and school staff, and help co‑coordinate a regional MASK grant received from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. Carroll said the position’s prior incumbent left in 2024 and the department is in the final phase of candidate selection.
Councilors asked whether the appropriation covers a full year and how any FY25 overlap will be handled. Carroll said the request funds FY26; available cash will cover remaining FY25 months and the department has sufficient cash on hand for any short overlap. The committee laid this item on the table to recommend approval to the full council.
