Assembly adopts resolution asking governor to proclaim April 9 as West Point Day; cadets honored on floor

The New York State Assembly on April 9, 2025, adopted Legislative Resolution No. 336 memorializing Gov. Kathy Hochul to proclaim April 9, 2025, as West Point Day in New York State and received a visiting delegation of United States Military Academy at West Point cadets and officers on the Assembly floor.

The resolution and visit were part of the Assembly's annual West Point Day recognition, brought to the floor by members of the Assembly and the Assembly Veterans' Affairs Committee. Assemblymember Steve Stern, chair of the Assembly Veterans' Affairs Committee, said the academy "instills" the values of "duty, honor, and country" in cadets and called West Point a place where "our future leaders come to learn and commit themselves to the values of duty, honor, and country." Colonel Khanh Diep, chief of staff of the United States Military Academy, accepted the resolution on behalf of the academy and thanked the Assembly for its support. "The academy is not only a national asset, but it is also a symbol of the strength of New York state's commitment to producing leaders of character who will guide our nation in time of peace and war," Colonel Diep said. She introduced First Captain Caroline Robinson, noting that Robinson oversees the Corps of Cadets at West Point, which the Assembly record cited as approximately 4,400 cadets.

Members used the occasion to introduce cadets from districts across New York. Assemblymember Berger introduced Cadet Tricia Chen of Flushing, Queens; other members introduced cadets including Aidan Bridal Meza, Cadet Bryce Sinclair, Cadet Navroop Singh, Cadet Shafi Ahmed, Cadet Eve Crossett, Cadet Morgan Lawler and others who serve at West Point and who plan to pursue various Army branches and graduate study. Several members spoke about West Point's history in the Hudson Valley and its role in developing military leaders and contributing to the regional economy.

The Assembly concluded the ceremony by extending the privileges of the floor to the cadets and support personnel and adjourned with plans to reconvene at 9 a.m. on Thursday, April 10.
