EcoSchool Network asks board to add sustainability to district core values

Genevieve Joplin, a steering-committee member of the North Clackamas Eco School Network and parent of two district students, urged the board to make sustainability more central to district practice. Joplin said sustainability education should be available in every school and asked the district to partner with the EcoSchool Network to create a strategic plan that "fully integrates sustainability into the current North Clackamas School District core values."

Joplin described the network's work supporting parent and staff training and named existing sustainability efforts such as food-waste reduction, on-site gardens and building-efficiency projects. The speaker framed the request as consistent with the district strategic plan and its stated core values (equity, relationships, integrity, empowerment and care), and asked the board to add sustainability to that list.

The board thanked the speaker; no formal action was taken during the meeting on the request.
