Commission briefed on multiple behavioral health and juvenile services grant and contract items

Sedgwick County staff described several grant and provider-agreement items on the upcoming commission agenda, including behavioral health services, Comcare funding and juvenile corrections intake funding.

Tom Stultz (Manager's Office staff) said the commission will consider a grant application for a little over $1.7 million to support crisis stabilization planning and processing for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and co-occurring mental illnesses; the backup material references the SARP program. Staff said Tim (staff member) and others would be available to answer questions at the meeting.

The commission packet also includes a 2025 Kansas Sentencing Commission Senate Bill 123 provider agreement that involves Comcare and community corrections to provide substance use disorder treatment to certain non-drug, nonviolent offenders. Steve (staff member) and Rusty (staff member) were identified as people who could answer questions on the agreement; staff described it as an ongoing renewal or continuation.

Staff described a longstanding relationship with KDADS for Comcare funding, noting Comcare has used fund balance while the state caught up on contracting. That Comcare relationship was characterized as about 20 years in duration and supporting two full-time and two part-time staff for homeless outreach.

Another item summarized in the packet is a grant of about $266,000 to provide juvenile intake and assessment services for corrections; backup material was called out on page 100 of the packet.

None of these items were presented as final actions at the agenda briefing; they will be considered on the commission agenda where commissioners and staff can take formal action.
