Budget committee forwards three grant and budget items to full commission

The Blount County budget committee recommended that three separate budget and grant items be referred to the full commission with favorable recommendations during the April workshop.
The committee voted to forward a Tennessee Highway Safety Office grant application for $185,000 to the full commission. The grant requires no local match and was presented on behalf of the Blount County Sheriff's Office (BCSO).
The committee also recommended forwarding an Emergency Management hazard mitigation grant application totaling $381,945 to reapply for funding to purchase three trailer-mounted generators for operations centers in Blount County, Maryville and Alcoa. The grant requires a 12.5% local match, calculated in the presentation as $47,743.12.
Finally, the committee recommended sending Resolution 254001, a budget increase request of $167,700 for the BCSO, to appropriate sheriff training funds and enter into a contract for engineering services to design a new firing range training center.
Each item was seconded on the floor and carried forward by unanimous workshop votes to the full commission for final consideration.
"That BCSO, Highway Safety Grant will be moved forward to the full commission," the chair announced after the vote. The Emergency Management grant application and Resolution 254001 were likewise referred with favorable recommendations.
