Taft College lays out five strategic goals and launches new allied-health programs

Dr. Leslie Minor, interim superintendent of Taft College, told the State of the City audience that the college has set five strategic goals to guide the next decade: increase enrollment; improve retention and success; broaden instructional programs and industry partnerships; position the college for long-term sustainability and growth; and strengthen a culture of innovation.
Minor said Taft College serves about 8,000 students annually, most part time, which she estimated equates to roughly 2,000 full-time-equivalent students. She described recent and upcoming program expansion in public safety and allied health, including a paramedic program and a medical assisting program launching next year, and a baccalaureate degree in dental hygiene completing its first year.
Minor also highlighted partnerships for workforce development, expanded student services such as no-cost tutoring and veteran resources, and college events including a commencement celebration on May 23 and an athletics fundraising golf tournament on April 25.
She closed by asking the community to encourage potential students to enroll and by reiterating the college's role in local workforce and economic development.
