Tamworth accepts $5,000 donation for summer swim program; recreation director outlines summer plans

The Tamworth Select Board voted unanimously April 8 to accept $5,000 in unanticipated funds from the Tamworth Foundation for the town—s recreational swim program.
The grant will support swim lessons and other summer programming run by Jeremy Phillips, Tamworth—s recreation director, who updated the board on staffing, locations and upcoming events. "I probably have 75 kids signed up so far," Phillips said, describing current enrollment as of early April.
The board—s acceptance came after a motion to take the funds into the town accounts and a three-member roll call vote recorded as: Bear, yes; French, yes; Roberts, yes.

He identified a shortfall in access to some school gym controls (hoops, scoreboard and curtain) because the gym teacher—s office is locked. Phillips asked the board to explore a controlled access solution so volunteers or rec staff can operate gym equipment when custodial staff are not present.
Phillips also noted operational details affecting summer planning: porta-potty arrangements for Fourth of July events remain unresolved; White Lake use carries parking fees and stricter instructor certification requirements; and the program currently lists two swim instructors with a possible third candidate, affecting how many children can be served because of water-safety ratios.
Board members and staff discussed options to ease access to school facilities and to coordinate volunteers versus town-employee responsibilities for equipment and keys. Carl (liaison) and Emily (administration) were asked to follow up on facility access and key control.
Ending: Phillips said he expects to post summer program sign-ups within two weeks and will continue to coordinate staffing and locations.
