The Palm Desert City Council on Thursday approved an employment agreement for Chris Escobedo as interim city manager that sets compensation at $270,000 per year, paid pro rata, and continues health and other benefits consistent with his prior role as assistant city manager.
City staff reported the terms during the open meeting, saying the compensation and benefit terms were discussed in closed session. “Under the Brown Act, the city must orally report a summary of the recommended action during the open meeting,” staff said before reciting the key terms: $270,000 annual salary on a pro rata basis and continuation of existing health and benefits.
Councilmember comments were brief and welcoming. The council voted 5-0 to approve the agreement.
The agreement takes effect immediately; staff said the interim manager’s duties and related provisions are consistent with council direction and will be implemented as described in the contract.
