The Kenner City Council approved a professional services agreement with Meyer Engineers Limited for architectural and engineering services to design a new two-story fire station, in a fixed-fee contract not to exceed $855,377. The motion passed unanimously, 7-0.
City staff said the fee covers a range of services beyond schematic design, including surveying, geotechnical work and construction administration and inspection. Staff noted the fixed fee is negotiated based on an estimated construction cost in today’s dollars of $8.5 million.
Council members asked whether firefighters had input into the station design. Chief Morris said a committee of firefighters is working with the consultants to design station features — lockers, generators, practical living spaces and other functional elements — and that similar committees have been used in the department’s prior station projects and apparatus purchases.
The motion to approve the agreement was made by Council Member McKinney and seconded by Council Member Lahat; the ordinance passed 7-0.
