Jefferson City School Board administers oaths and elects officers, names Erica Leonard president

Board member Brad Bates spoke during the nominations process and said he would not support Erica Leonard for president, saying his decision reflected standards he expects of board leadership: “My decision to not support miss Leonard for this role is not personal, it's about the standards that I believe we should all uphold ... Because of that, I am a no,” Bates said on the record. Despite that opposition, the motion to elect Erica Leonard passed.
The board also nominated and voted on a vice president and secretary and selected a delegate and alternate for the state school boards association; the transcript records affirmative and negative roll-call entries for individual board members during those votes.
