McKeesport Area School Board accepts resignation of member Dan Gogenauer, opens 20-day application window

The McKeesport Area School District Board of School Directors on April 10 accepted the immediate resignation of board member Dan Gogenauer and opened a 20-day window for residents to submit letters of interest to the board secretary.

Board President Mata told the board that he received an email at 1:50 p.m. on April 10 in which Dan Gogenauer wrote that he was resigning effective immediately. After a motion to add the resignation to the agenda under board matters, the board voted by roll call to accept the resignation.

The motion to accept the resignation included a process timeline: applicants for the vacant seat must submit letters of interest to board secretary Shelley within 20 days from the April 10 meeting. President Mata said the board has 30 days following acceptance to appoint a replacement; if the board does not fill the vacancy within that 30-day period, “anyone from the community could petition the Court of Common Pleas in Allegheny County to set a hearing to appoint a new board member,” he said.

The board did not specify additional selection criteria or a deadline time beyond the 20-day application window announced during the meeting. Mata said the board expects to act at the next public meeting if possible.

No candidate names were raised at the meeting. The board’s motion to add the resignation to the agenda and accept it passed unanimously by roll call, with the chair announcing “Aye” on the vote and “Motion carries.”

The district did not provide a reason for Gogenauer’s resignation in the email read at the meeting, and no further comments from Gogenauer were presented to the board during the April 10 session.

The board asked that letters of interest be submitted to the board secretary Shelley; the district did not provide an email address or street address in the meeting remarks.
