Cannon County Board names Julie Vincent director of schools and authorizes contract negotiations

The Cannon County School Board voted April 10 to appoint Julie Vincent as the district's next director of schools and authorized staff to begin contract negotiations.

The board approved the nomination after a motion to appoint Vincent and to enter into contract negotiations. The motion was moved by board member Mullins and seconded by Trammell; the motion passed with the board recording unanimous support.

Board members said the selection capped a competitive search. Bonnie, who called the roll and led administrative actions during the meeting, congratulated Vincent and said the board would work to make the leadership change smooth. "I also look forward to working with our new director. I will work hard to create a seamless transition," Bonnie said.

Superintendent-level duties and an effective start date were not discussed on the record during the meeting; the board limited its action to approving the appointment and authorizing negotiations on a contract.

The appointment came near the start of the work meeting, which otherwise included routine business: approval of the consent agenda, grant applications, textbook adoption recommendations and several items the board tabled for later meetings.

Vincent was referred to in the meeting as director-elect; the board did not read or approve a final contract in open session. Staff and board members said they would proceed with negotiations and follow the district's normal hiring and contracting procedures.
