Superintendent highlights student honors, robotics world championship bid and district OpenSci grant

WALPOLE, Mass. — Superintendent Dr. Goff on Thursday updated the School Committee on recent student accomplishments and district grants, including a robotics team qualification for an international competition and a district award of the OpenSci science curriculum grant.
Dr. Goff said Walpole High School's robotics team earned a spot at the World Championships in Houston and received the Autonomous Award for reliable robot performance. She also highlighted that Walpole High student Najara Cole was named the 2025 Massachusetts State Champion in the Lions Youth Speech Competition after being one of five finalists from over 600 entries.
At the State House student government day, two seniors represented the district; Sarah Macuzzi was selected as governor for the day. Dr. Goff said Macuzzi will attend Yale and fellow delegate Rona McAndrew will attend Northeastern.
The district will shortly launch a districtwide Family School Climate Survey in May in partnership with K‑12 Insight to collect parent feedback. Dr. Goff also announced the district was awarded the OpenSci school science curriculum grant, after receiving strong support from staff who wrote the proposal.
Looking ahead, Dr. Goff said the district will pursue a work‑study initiative with principals to create pathways for students considering careers in education. Several upcoming events were listed, including a district art show and film festival.
