Committee lowers reporting threshold for public gifts to schools from $1,000 to $100

The Policy Committee unanimously recommended revising policy 840 to lower the reporting threshold for public gifts to schools from $1,000 to $100.
Proponents said a lower reporting threshold would let the district publicly acknowledge more donors and might encourage giving. Board member Tom Hankins said recognition could be included in routine public announcements and noted that in-kind donations (for example, from Head Start partners) should also be acknowledged.
Administration expressed concern about the administrative workload of tracking smaller donations. Dr. Garrison said the district previously reported larger gifts only and was hesitant to reduce the threshold without further consideration: "Putting it at a number, you could just say $50 if you want," he said, indicating the administration's preference to keep reporting at a higher level. Board member Hankins cited the district foundation and said "we have this foundation that has like $14 in it," urging that public recognition could help increase contributions.
Despite differing views on workload, the committee voted to recommend the lower $100 reporting threshold to the full board; the motion passed by voice vote.
