Tipton County Schools staff and the district's construction manager updated the board on insurance negotiations and on-site construction progress related to the school damaged by the recent tornado.
Superintendent and the district's project team reported a six-month extension was granted by the insurer (through September) but that no further extensions will be granted, and that additional ACV and contents payments are expected within roughly 30 days. The district's construction manager is refining the "old-build" scope estimates insurers are reviewing; insurers agreed with many unit prices but disputes remain over scope items. The superintendent said those clarifications should increase the insurer's payout as negotiations focus on scope rather than unit pricing.
On the construction site, masonry and structural work was reported to be largely complete in several areas, roof work is advancing and window installation and interior work are scheduled to follow; grading for the softball field was announced to begin the following week. The district said contractors and municipal inspectors remain engaged and that procurement and furniture vendors have been identified to support outfitting new spaces.
District staff said additional contents funding (roughly $3 million requested) was in review and that some previously paid amounts for contents and earlier pay applications had been applied; the district expects further reimbursements to help with near-term cash flow for ongoing construction and purchases. The administration asked the board to expect fund-balance planning for possible short-term cash needs and said the project team will supply more detailed payment and fund-balance projections at upcoming work sessions.
Board members asked for and received a commitment to provide a consolidated written summary of the insurance figures and the revised scope estimates, to be shared with the board when available.
