Arts staff outlines PAPI spring show, Art Attack planning and Arts & History Center updates

Leah (staff member) said the Plein Air Painters of Idaho (PAPI) annual spring show opens April 23, with an opening reception scheduled for May 3 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Leah said she ordered banners and yard signs for promotion, and that the show includes 18 artists with about 44 artworks; flyers listing the artists will be posted around town and online.
The commission began preliminary planning for Art Attack, an arts festival planned for Sept. 13. Leah said the city’s event coordinator is shifting some program emphasis to younger participants. Commissioners suggested several ways the arts commission could participate or sponsor activities: a sidewalk-chalk contest (open to children or all ages), a pop-up gallery, a call for performance artists (music, dance, theater) with a youth emphasis, and a talent contest showing arts-based skills. Leah said she would meet with the event coordinator to determine which ideas are feasible for that date and report back.
Leah also reported an update on the Kuna Arts & History Center: exterior lettering for the building has been ordered and will be installed in the coming weeks, and the center’s summer hours will begin the week of April 21 with Wednesday–Friday hours from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday hours from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Commissioners had no formal actions on these reports. The commission asked staff to bring Art Attack planning back to a future agenda as details solidify.
Ending: Staff will continue to coordinate with the city event coordinator on Art Attack programming and will publicize the PAPI exhibit and the center’s summer hours when signage and promotional materials are available.
