The Nibley City Council on April 10 approved a multi-year plan to raise household water charges and authorized city staff to apply for a $3,000,000 loan to help pay for a new well and other water capital projects.
City manager Justin Maugham told the council the water fund has seen rising operational and capital costs since the last rate structure change in 2005, including higher salaries, rising meter replacement costs, and increasing state and federal testing requirements. “Water meters are our bread and butter,” Maugham said, adding they are becoming more costly to replace and maintain.
