Wild Bird Adventures brings ambassador raptors to Fort Bend libraries, urges conservation

Volunteers from Wild Bird Adventures brought ambassador raptors to the First Colony branch of the Fort Bend library system and urged attendees to take simple conservation steps, the organization said.
A representative for Wild Bird Adventures said the nonprofit operates between Hempstead and Navasota, cares for eight ambassador raptors that cannot survive in the wild, and uses library and school visits to promote bird conservation. She urged the public to avoid littering and to refrain from using rodenticides and pesticides, which she said contribute to raptor injuries.
"Not littering. A lot of raptures end up getting hit on our highways, on our roads. When people litter, that attracts the small rodents that they hunt for... not using any kind of rodenticide, rat poisons or pesticides," the speaker said. She also recommended the Cornell Lab's All About Birds website as a learning resource and gave the Wild Bird Adventures website as a contact point for more information.
The program said Wild Bird Adventures is 100% volunteer and that all revenue goes to bird care. The segment included descriptions of the birds' diets and the group's outreach to schools, nursing homes and hospitals.
