New Stafford police officers complete patrol rifle qualification training

Newly hired officers at the Stafford Police Department completed patrol rifle qualification training at the department range, department staff said.
A new officer who graduated from the University of Houston–Downtown described a "brival qualification course" (patrol rifle qualification) and said the training covered weapon safety, sight alignment and manipulation. The department's range master described a day-and-a-half of training with the graduating cadet class and said the course breaks the system into parts to build competency and confidence.
"For me, personally, it's been an awesome experience because prior to this, I didn't have no experience in any weapon systems," the new officer said. "These guys really know what they're doing... It has helped me gain confidence." The range master said the group had limited prior weapons experience but had made strong progress and would be ready to use the patrol rifle system in the field after completing training.
The broadcast identified instructors by last name—Officer Rulong and Officer Ward—but did not provide full names or further background on the training curriculum. The program also said the officers had graduated from the University of Houston–Downtown prior to joining the department.
