SMSD STEM campus receives national certification, district leaders praise staff

A Stafford campus celebrated national STEM certification for its teachers and recognition in state rankings, school and district representatives said.

A campus representative said six teachers received certificates that make the campus nationally certified in STEM and that district leaders—identified on the program as Dr. LaKenya Perry Allen (STEM director), Dr. Bostic (superintendent) and Dr. Almas (chief academic officer)—attended to recognize the achievement. The representative also said the campus had been recognized as "the second best school in Texas," calling the distinction a major honor.

"Today, we had our ceremony as being a nationally recognized STEM school. Thank you, Dr. LaKenya Perry Allen. She is our STEM director, and she is responsible for all of our teachers, 6 of them, who received a certificate for being a nationally certified STEM campus," the campus representative said. The program credited the campus community and teachers for the accomplishment and noted that seniors would wear letterman's jackets at graduation to mark the recognition.

The broadcast used two variant names for the campus during the segment; the program also referred to the campus with the acronym SMSD. The program did not provide the certifying organization's name, the standards used for certification, or the specific state ranking methodology.

District leaders who appeared or were thanked on the program were identified as Dr. LaKenya Perry Allen (STEM director), Dr. Bostic (superintendent) and Dr. Almas (chief academic officer). The campus representative said the campus principal had been named regional principal of the year for Region 4 but did not provide the principal's name on the program.
