Board approves lease for district office space in Pahrump, not to exceed $22,000 annually

The Nye County Water District Governing Board authorized its general manager on April 10 to execute a lease for commercial office space in Pahrump for up to $22,000 annually.
Manager Dan Weeks outlined the district’s need for permanent office space to house records, equipment and to provide a working environment for the manager and public appointments. Weeks said the county previously provided space but that changing county space needs required the district to find a separate office. He presented several available spaces and recommended a unit in the 2340 Calvada Boulevard building; the district would cover lease, utilities and related insurance costs.
Board members and county liaison staff discussed county-owned space options and the county’s current space constraints. Nye County staff said county departments had been relocated and space could not be committed at this time; they offered to donate surplus county furniture to the district.
The proposed lease was structured as a not-to-exceed $22,000 annual amount to cover rent, utilities and insurance; staff recommended a one-year lease with renewal options to preserve flexibility. The board moved to approve the manager’s execution of a lease agreement not to exceed $22,000 annually. The motion passed unanimously (6-0).
Board members said they expected the district to maintain public appointment hours by appointment and to share facilities such as the commissioners’ chambers and other county rooms as needed.
