Nye County Water District approves $20,000 for Beck Environmental work order

The Nye County Water District Governing Board unanimously approved a $20,000 work order (Work Order No. 6) for Beck Environmental on April 10 to provide technical services and continued grant assistance for the district.

Manager Dan Weeks described Beck Environmental’s role as grant-writing and grant-administration support. He said past work orders funded a series of successful grant applications, including the detention-basin engineering grant and Basin 162 modeling work, and that Beck had also provided on-the-ground help mentoring district staff.

Kayla Armbruster of Beck Environmental reported the firm’s ongoing projects with the district, including the community source water protection program (community outreach and disposal bags), the Basin 162 applied sciences modeling grant, and a tamarisk eradication grant that is paused pending program reopening. Armbruster said Beck had completed earlier scopes and was positioned to help with several near-term tasks, including finalizing scope of work and budget adjustments tied to the Bureau of Reclamation award.

Board members asked about return on investment and past expenditures. Weeks summarized prior year payments to Beck and described funds expended in 2023, 2024 and year-to-date 2025; staff recommended approval to provide the contractor with available hours to finish active grant work. A motion to approve Work Order No. 6 for up to $20,000 passed unanimously (6-0).

The authorization allows the manager to approve Beck work on a case-by-case basis within the approved amount. Board members said they viewed Beck as instrumental in winning grants that have expanded district programs.

The manager will track expenditures against prior work orders and report back to the board on progress and grant deliverables.
