The Xenia City Council on April 10 voted to authorize staff to purchase a 0.15-acre parcel identified as 84 Railroad Street (technical address cited by staff as 84 Breyerold Street) from Cobblestone Property Group LLC for $3,500.
City Manager Merriman said the parcel is landlocked, in a flood plain, surrounded by city property behind Xenia Station, and has no utility access, giving it limited development potential. Staff said acquiring the lot will help consolidate properties around Xenia Station and support longer-term planning for a park or promenade in the area.
Merriman said staff negotiated a purchase price of $3,500, a modest premium over what the seller had invested, and recommended the purchase. Councilman Walker moved to authorize the purchase; Councilman Crawford seconded. The council approved the resolution by roll-call vote with Mayor Urschel, Councilmen Reynolds, Crawford, Walker, Wood and President Smith recorded as “Aye.”
Merriman and councilmembers discussed that additional acquisitions will be needed to assemble a larger, contiguous site; staff said this purchase is an initial step to build a critical mass of parcels near Xenia Station.
