Amanda Metzger, chair of the Bicycle Pedestrian Advisory Committee, told the council the committee completed a walk audit near Summerville High School and Gregg Middle School to assess student routes and will provide a report to the council.
Metzger recommended the town apply for the fiscal year 2025 Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) funding opportunity; the notice of funding opportunity was released March 30 and the application deadline is June 26, she said. Metzger noted the town received a $240,000 FY2024 planning grant under the program and urged the council to build on that planning award with a demonstration or implementation project in FY2025.
Metzger also asked the council, ahead of April 22 budget meetings, to retain a $400,000 line item for bicycle and pedestrian projects and to keep the committee informed on the grant application. "Please let us know how our committee can help you guys inform that grant," she said.
The remarks were delivered during the public-comment portion of the April 10 meeting; the council did not take a formal vote on the grant recommendation during the meeting.
