Riley County commissioners approve letter supporting shared community-corrections funding with Clay County

The Riley County Commission voted unanimously April 10 to approve a letter supporting Clay County’s request to share funding for community corrections services.

The motion to sign and send the letter passed by voice vote, 3-0. Commissioners directed staff to deliver the signed letter to Clay County and to keep cooperating on follow-up communications.

Commissioners said the request mirrors last year’s arrangement and carries the same dollar amount. County staff told the commission they have already coordinated with Clay County officials and that Clay County is aware of and receptive to the request. The commission also noted ongoing communications about opioid-related grant requests to neighboring jurisdictions.

The action is procedural: the county will produce the signed letter and staff will transmit it to Clay County as part of continuing intergovernmental collaboration on corrections funding.

No additional fiscal appropriation or contract was approved at the meeting; commissioners said any related financial commitments would be brought back to the commission for formal authorization if required.
