The Board of Construction Standards voted unanimously to order demolition of the residence at 607 Arbor Place after city inspectors documented structural collapse, extensive interior damage and evidence of transient occupancy.
Hassan Alazahue, a dangerous‑premises officer with the Development Services Department, presented photos showing deteriorated foundations, collapsed ceiling members, missing sheathing, an unstable attached carport and an auxiliary structure heavily damaged by water and time. Staff reported the first inspection occurred Jan. 24, 2024, and that notices were mailed and posted but no repair permits, scope-of-work or financial documentation had been provided by the owners.
Alazahue said the interior showed holes in walls and ceiling, accumulated trash, evidence of people entering the structure and prior small fires started on an interior stove. The auxiliary structure contained a mattress and signs of long‑term deterioration.
After staff testimony the board moved to find the property a public nuisance under City Code (Chapter 6, subsections cited by staff) and ordered demolition within 30 days. The motion was seconded and passed unanimously.
Staff noted the property is not designated as historic and that owners were not present at the hearing. The city will proceed with abatement and demolition if the owners do not demonstrate compliance or appeal the order within the period allowed by municipal procedures.
