Harris County court approves DA budget increase, adopts climate plan and several resolutions

Harris County Commissioners Court approved a set of votes at its April 10 meeting that included funding for the district attorney’s office, adoption of the Harris County Climate Justice Plan and several ceremonial resolutions.
The court voted to provide $4,140,000 in supplemental funding to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office for immediate staffing and operational needs tied to intake, domestic violence and mental-health/diversion work; the DA had requested up to $7.75 million but the county budget office recommended a lower amount. The court also voted to adopt the Harris County Climate Justice Plan, a community-led strategy that organizers say centers equity and long-term resilience. The court approved a new constable detective rank and a corresponding pay range intended to align compensation for investigative duties across law-enforcement offices, and directed constables and the sheriff’s office to pursue parity in job descriptions and promotional/testing practices.
The court additionally approved a slate of resolutions recognizing April observances and local initiatives, including: designating April 2025 as Autism Acceptance Month, designating April 5–11 as Week of the Young Child, approving a Child Abuse Prevention Month resolution and adopting a proclamation honoring University of Houston men’s basketball. The court also approved the Burnett Bayland Park master plan for the Gulfton neighborhood and accepted other consent items.

Court members said they intend to follow up with departmental briefings and budget projections to reflect the supplemental funding, and to track next steps on the Climate Justice Plan’s implementation priorities.
