UN reports renewed fighting in South Kivu and Ituri provinces, thousands displaced

The United Nations said continuing violence in the Democratic Republic of the Congo has driven mass displacement in parts of South Kivu and Ituri provinces, with civilians bearing the brunt of insecurity.
The briefing said heavy fighting persists in parts of Kalehe territory, including clashes in the town of Lumbisi that injured at least three civilians and reportedly displaced thousands. Local civil-society groups estimated up to 30,000 people fled parts of the area following renewed clashes.
In Ituri province, the UN said that on April 8 armed groups attacked localities in Irumu territory (transcript named "Jugu"/"Jugu territory"), reportedly setting homes on fire, looting property and destroying infrastructure, and prompting large numbers of people to flee, though exact figures remain unconfirmed.
The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and partners continue to deliver assistance where security allows, including a four-day mobile clinic in the Manova area to provide medical care, the briefing said. The UN noted that exact displacement figures were unverified and appealed for access and protection for civilians.
No UN peacekeeping troop movements or specific new security operations were announced in the briefing.
