The Jefferson County Board of Commissioners on April 1 approved routine minutes and financial items, appointed a county representative, authorized a small contract for teen-parenting outreach and proclaimed April 2025 as Pennsylvania 811 Safe Digging Month.
The board approved the minutes for March 25, 2025, and voted to pay invoices totaling $418,452.75 for the period March 22 to April 3, 2020 (as recorded in the meeting motion). The board also approved payroll in the gross amount of $346,776.57 for the period March 9 through March 22, 2020 (as recorded in the motion). All motions were moved, seconded and carried by voice vote; no roll-call tallies were recorded in the meeting transcript.
The commissioners appointed Gail Kulik to the Jefferson County territory for a five-year term, with the appointee's term recorded as expiring May 23 (year not specified in the transcript). The board also approved executing an agreement between Jefferson County Domestic Relations and Community Action Incorporated for a teen-parenting outreach project. Under the approved agreement, Community Action Incorporated will provide services at $100 per hour, not to exceed 150 hours and a total of $15,000.
The board proclaimed April 2025 as Pennsylvania 811 Safe Digging Month in Jefferson County. Dan, who identified himself as a damage prevention liaison, told the commissioners the 811 program works with county communities, municipalities and utility companies to mark underground lines and prevent damage and outages, and offered business cards for follow-up. "We help get those lines marked to make sure that people are safe in their line of work," Dan said.
The commissioners also appointed five individuals to the Jefferson County Monument Park board of directors for 2025: Dr. Harry Kuntzmann, James Hintura, Scott Palmer, Timothy Dillon and Corey Denison.
In other administrative items, the board discussed candidate information packets and campaign reporting deadlines; staff said packets would be distributed to candidates and that questions about financial reporting could be directed to county staff.
