CUSD honors state champion teams; student body presidents highlight campus events and awards

Board President Serrano opened the April 9 meeting by recognizing recent student achievements across the district, including Hamilton High School’s girls basketball team and Perry High School’s boys basketball team for winning state championships.
“This is the third state championship for the girls in Hamilton High School history,” an introducing official said before players introduced themselves by grade. Coach Trevor Snyder and the Hamilton players were congratulated for athletic and academic performance.
Perry High School’s boys team was celebrated as a four‑peat state champion. Perry assistant coach Andy Valadez and several players noted the program’s mix of seniors and returning players; coach Sam Duane was not present.
The board also heard extended student‑government reports. Lena Doe, student body president at ACP High School, listed a string of third‑quarter activities and achievements, including a district student council convention, a leadership seminar at Disney’s Imagination Campus, and multiple athletic records. Doe reported high participation in DECA: 92 students competed at the state career development conference, 22 qualified for the international competition, and staff and students received statewide awards.
Lauren (Lauren) Gonzales, Basha High School student body president, summarized campus events including a car show, a talent show, Basha Gives Back senior projects, prom plans and graduation set for May 22 at Mountain America Stadium. Gonzales announced she will attend Northern Arizona University in the fall.
Superintendent Jeff Narducci highlighted several administrative items in his report: teacher and administrator honors, a participatory budgeting voter day at Chandler High School, career and technical education signing events at Hamilton, reimagined learning spaces such as Conley Elementary’s Coyote Innovation Center, and the appointment of Sarah Stone as executive director of specialized services beginning next school year.
The board thanked students and staff for the reports and congratulated the state champions and awardees. No board action was required for recognitions and student reports.
