Summary
The Canfield Local School District board on April 9 approved a three-part package to replace the stadium scoreboard: a lease-purchase financing resolution with Huntington Bank, an agreement with BSN Sports to manage the scoreboard order and installation, and formal acceptance of booster-club donations to cover payments.
The Canfield Local School District Board of Education on April 9 adopted three resolutions to proceed with a new stadium scoreboard funded by booster donations and supported with lease-purchase financing.
The board approved a lease-purchase financing arrangement with Huntington Bank to pay for the scoreboard project. The administration said the district will receive booster-club donations to cover payments; the booster organization has committed a first-year contribution of $50,000 and the plan envisions roughly $50,000-per-year payments over a five-year schedule to cover the full cost. The board voted to accept those donations and to proceed with the financing.
Separately, the board approved an agreement with BSN Sports to place the order and coordinate the project; BSN will work with Daktronics (the scoreboard manufacturer identified by the administration) and manage installation logistics. The administration said a third-party installer will remove the existing scoreboard and replace it with the new unit, with a goal to complete installation in early to mid-July if scheduling permits.
The superintendent and board members clarified the funding structure several times during discussion, emphasizing that the scoreboard itself will be paid for with booster funds and sponsorships rather than the district’s operating budget. The board also noted it is using the law firm Brick & Graydon for the transaction documents.
All three resolutions were adopted by roll-call vote. The board also approved acceptance of a long list of cash donations that included contributions earmarked for the scoreboard project and other school programs.
The administration said it is soliciting sponsorships and business donations to offset annual payments and named businesses and donors who have committed amounts or sponsorship pledges. The district will return to the board for any contract or scheduling updates as work proceeds.
