County staff report elevator, HVAC and facility repairs; Adult Care Center entry and ADA work slated

County facilities staff updated the Public Works Committee on several ongoing and planned maintenance projects, including elevator rehabs, HVAC improvements and accessibility work at the Adult Care Center.
Staff reported they contacted the company that inspects and services county elevators and received preliminary cost estimates to refurbish elevator controls and pumps. “They were estimating between 3 and 400,000,” staff said when asked to provide a budget number; the estimate described was for two elevators combined and staff said a formal bid process would be required for full replacement or extensive rehabilitation.
Staff also reported completing tie-ins for a new septic system and a water connection at the county airport, and said a GA-apron paving federal project will use a consultant for construction administration. The county’s share of that consultant contract was listed at $8,500 toward a project with a total cost cited as about $169,000.
Building maintenance items described included installation of DX cooling units at the Government Center Annex and Gladys Olmstead building, repair and temporary stabilization of a glass front door at one county facility, and a water tower replacement project planned for the Liberty Complex with site work expected to start soon.
A public commenter and others urged the county to address ADA access at the Adult Care Center entry and to move forward on long-overdue elevator repairs there and at other county facilities. “I am further pleased that that entryway in its entirety will be examined to make sure that is fully in compliance with ADA and Department of Health requirements,” a speaker who identified herself as a supporter of the facility said, praising staff for temporary repairs to the front door and for refilled maintenance positions.
Staff said the county will prepare procurement work for elevator rehabilitation and that more exact bids and scopes will follow a formal procurement process.
